Town of Addison City Council members received a presentation from staff on the use of artificial turf in Addison during the October 24th session. The result of the presentation concluded that the Meridian Square Condo’s in Addison needs to remove their artificial turf.
Meridian Square Homeowners Association has recently installed artificial turf within the required front yard landscape area, which prompted the Council discussion, town of Addison officials said in their weekly news letter.
Addison ordinance requires the use of living plants
Addison’s landscape ordinance requires the use of living plants to fulfill the requirements of the ordinance.
Town of Addison said that the reason for the landscape ordinance is because real grass aids in stabilizing the environment’s ecological balance by contributing to the processes of air purification, oxygen regeneration, groundwater recharge, and (storm water) runoff retardation. They also said real grass aids in noise,
glare and heat abatement.
Town of Addison said that detached single family and duplex-zoned properties are not required to comply with the ordinance.
In the presentation, staff of the Town of Addison said that they did not recommend the modification to the Town
landscape ordinance to allow the installation of Artificial Turf in the required landscape area. They said that the use of Artificial Turf does not meet the environmental objectives of Addison’s landscape ordinance. Staff in Addison said that the modification to the landscape ordinance to allow Artificial Turf would require additional regulations that would require additional staff resources.
During the presentation, the Town of Addison concluded that the Meridian Square Homeowners Association will have to remove their artificial turf.
Town of Addison sent out their weekly newsletter this past Friday. The news letter provided links where residents and anyone interested can see the presentation. You can also see the discussion. Addison Today has the links in this news story.
